Customer Background
The customer is a global supplier of automation, assembly, and material handling systems used in the manufacturing of vehicles and vehicle components.
Challenge
The customer needed a method to clean and dry the aluminum frames (trays) used to hold batteries in electric-powered vehicles. The parts measured 43″ L x 37″ W x 7″ H. These parts were contaminated with typical manufacturing coolant, oils, and chips, and needed to be visually clean and completely dry upon exiting the parts washer.

Solution
A multiple-zone, 42″ wide conveyor belt parts washer was designed to process the parts in an inline configuration. In the wash and rinse zones, spray nozzles are positioned above, below, and to the sides of the parts for optimal cleaning. The washer included several options, such as a chemical injection system, micro-filtration chamber, a contamination sensor for the filter chamber, programmable solution heat auto-timer, exhaust fan, belt-type oil skimmer, oil coalescer, and load and unload sensors.
Cleaning Method
Aqueous cleaning provided the optimum method for cleaning the battery frames due to the size and the production rate requirements. The separate process zones provided the cleanliness and dryness required for the application.
