Customer Background

Customer required a cleaning process for two sizes of steel shell casings. The quoted application covered 25mm casings approximately 5.39 inches long and 30mm casings approximately 6.81 inches long, with a target throughput of 10,000 shells per eight-hour shift.

Challenge

The application called for removing water-soluble lubricant, chips, and light manufacturing soils while delivering visually clean casings and a desired 100% dry finish. Cleaning both casing sizes at 625 shells per hour per lane required consistent part handling, effective drainage from the casing interiors, and multiple drying stages.

Solution

Alliance proposed an Aquamaster CC-2400E dual-lane conveyorized aqueous cleaning system. Stainless steel chain conveyors use custom rotating part fixtures, pitched to help drain moisture from inside each casing. Adjustable conveyor speed supports the specified production requirements. The system combines heated wash and rinse stages with intermediate, ambient, and heated blowoff. Stainless steel tanks, removable chip baskets, slide-out spray manifolds, and accessible clean-out doors support routine maintenance.

Cleaning Method

Parts travel through a 4-foot wash zone with spray nozzles above, below, and beside the conveyors, followed by intermediate air knives that remove bulk moisture and limit solution carryover. A 2-foot rinse zone provides additional spray cleaning. Six ambient air knives strip remaining water, and a 4-foot heated blowoff section directs hot air above, below, and along the conveyor lanes.
