Customer Background

The customer is a world-class leader in the manufacturing of outboard and sterndrive marine engines and components.

Challenge

The customer needed a cleaning system for four (4) different pre-machined aluminum castings that include a block, head, crankcase, and head casting parts. Outer areas of the parts needed to be free of chips, while internal cavities and passages needed to be clean within reason. Residual moisture was acceptable, as long as gross amounts of moisture were removed upon exit.

Solution

Alliance designed a CB-2400 conveyorized belt washer for the automated cleaning of marine engine parts. This design utilized a 24″ wide stainless steel belt and rollers with an 18″ high product opening. The wash module has a tank capacity of 240 gallons with a 3′0″ spray zone length. Eighteen (18) clip-on nozzles offer a full 360° spray pattern and can be adjusted to best clean each type of part as needed. The patented Full-Access fiberglass canopy is removable for easy cleaning and maintenance of internal machine components. A high-capacity pump was used as an upgrade to this machine for added pressure and cleaning power. Interior lighting and windows were added to the wash zone canopy segments for process viewing. Micro-filtration chambers and an oil skimmer were used in the design to make the machine more efficient and environmentally friendly by allowing the wash solution to be reused which in turn, allows the machine to run longer between tank change-outs. Overall dimensions of this design are 14′3″ long x 6′7″ wide x 5′10″ high.
