Customer Background
The customer is a leading manufacturer of aircraft engines and engine components for the general aviation industry.
Challenge
The customer needed a washing system to remove honing oils, coolant, and chips from aircraft engine cylinder barrels. The aircraft engine cylinder barrels needed to be visually clean, and 100% dry upon exiting the cleaning system, some residual moisture would be acceptable. The production rate is approximately one set of barrels every 3 minutes, total of 30,000 barrels per year.

Solution
A three-stage Aquamaster CB-1800E that includes wash, rinse, and ambient blow-off process zones was designed to meet cleaning requirements. The aircraft engine cylinder barrels are fed through the cleaner machine with a single conveyor belt set up in a dual-lane configuration to clean both the ‘rough’ and ‘finished’ barrels simultaneously by feeding each barrel onto its respective conveyor lane in a vertical orientation.
Clip-on adjustable spray nozzles are placed on both sides of the conveyor for full wash and rinse capabilities. To meet the 100% dryness requirement, high-velocity adjustable air knives are located on the sides, top, and bottom of the conveyor. One stainless-steel strainer basket with 1/16” holes located prior to pump suction, strains particles from solution and provides pump protect. Two segments of Alliance’s patented “Full-Access” lift-off canopy along with hinged cleanout doors were included in the design for ease of cleaning and maintenance.
One stainless-steel, 16” high X 21” wide hinged, clean-out door on solution tank provides access to tank inside and bottom for periodic maintenance. Doorframe is flush to tank bottom for easy tank cleaning.
The total conveyor dimensional capacity of 13′8″ long x 18″ wide x 9″ high product opening with a production rate of one set of aircraft engine cylinder barrels every three (3) minutes.
